Doctor Gilliam has a cure for the soul

Monday, December 21st, 2009

The Huffington Post features a beautiful review of Terry Gilliam, here.  I find it true, Sir Doctor Terry Gilliam is an auteur; an artist as in the renaissance artists.  His work and narrative to be compared not with a Spielberg, but a Leonardo (DaVinci, not DiCaprio, ya dig).

Choose Not to Fall

I think this is a beautifully done short film.  Spiritual, but not over the top.

Under Waterloo Station

Friday, August 21st, 2009

I wandered into a tunnel underneath Waterloo Station a few weeks ago, and spontaneously filmed Joax and James Brooks on their evangelistic quest to spread the gospel through art.  Went well, editing next week.

I’m ready, ready for the laughing gas…

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

To loosely quote Bono, “I’m ready for  the lauging gas– I’m ready– ready- ready for what’s next.”  If I say this with a faux British accent it’s very funny, at least to me.

In the midst of completing a year-long process on a documentary, and a sit-com, and some corporates and video podcasts.  I’m gettng through the credit-crisis which became a downturn and is now a recession with a bevvy of micro-budgeted films.

I’ve had a huge learning curve how to make low-budget projects look and feel high budget.  That £10k? Make it look like £60k.  Unless you can make the project cool by it just looking £10k.

I’ve learned scripting is vital to improvisation, and improvisation is vital to scripting- it’s a mythic comic cycle known only to the few, but I’ve entered into that particular circle of life.

Also: when working with sock puppets, actors’ hands can get sweaty so you have to provide athlete’s foot powder to their palms on an hourly basis.

It’s been fun, it’s been real, and now it’s time for more.

We Once Lived Underground

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

A long, long time ago, primitive humans lived in alcoves beneath the earth. They eventually made their way up through building tunnels, installing escalators and lifts: a system we now call the London Underground. Here’s a short promo I directed for Transport for London. History of the Northern Line from Bubble Up TV on Vimeo.

Fun with Sock

Friday, August 14th, 2009

We had a lot of fun filming this song, on the magical bean bag chair in Camden. It took a little while longer to film, cause of all the animatronics, CGI (did you know Szark is a CGI Sock?) and hiding the orchestra behind the Bean. But we got there.Just took two weeks.Featuring Marianne Sheehan and the venerable Owen Morse, song created by Svein Nygaard and shot by “Jeduto” Jeremy DuToit.
